Malcolm McDowell Calls Lily Collins “One of the Great Actresses” Despite Netflix Show Critique

Veteran British actor Malcolm McDowell, 82, opened up about his admiration for his daughter-in-law, Lily Collins, in a candid interview—but admitted he’s not a fan of her Netflix rom-com, Emily in Paris.

“To be honest, it’s not really my kind of thing, and Lily knows that,” McDowell said of the hit series. “But I’m definitely her biggest fan. She’s absolutely one of the great actresses.”

The A Clockwork Orange star praised Collins’ on-screen presence, adding, “When she’s on screen, there’s nobody else there. She’s not only a talented actress, but she also has a beautiful quality… a sort of charisma.”

McDowell even credited Collins with boosting Paris tourism. “I’m sure a lot of people in the U.S. have watched the show and thought, ‘Yeah, let’s go to Paris,’” he noted.

Collins stars as Emily Cooper in the Darren Star series, a young woman who moves from Chicago to Paris for work and navigates her career, friendships, and love life in the French capital. The show, which premiered in 2020, is set to return for its fifth season on December 18.
