Maryam Nawaz Tours Sargodha on New Electric Buses, Announces Flood Relief Measures

SARGODHA – Following the inauguration of the city’s new fleet of eco-friendly buses, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz took a ride herself, touring Sargodha aboard one of the electric vehicles.

Last week, Maryam Nawaz launched the initiative, introducing 60 electric buses for Sargodha city and 105 across the Sargodha division. A dedicated charging station has also been established to support the fleet.

Speaking at the ceremony, the chief minister highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to assist flood-affected communities. She announced financial aid for homeowners whose houses were damaged, as well as compensation for livestock owners, ranging from Rs200,000 to Rs500,000, with cheques set to be distributed within five days.

Maryam Nawaz emphasized the scale of the devastation, noting that floods impacted 27 cities and over 5,000 villages. She said swift government action had prevented a far greater loss of life. Relief operations enabled the safe evacuation of 2.5 million people and ensured the provision of food and other essential supplies.

“The rescue efforts extended beyond people,” she said, “as livestock were also moved to safer areas to protect livelihoods.”
