Maxwell Out Philippe In for NZ T20

Maxwell Injured, Philippe Called Up for New Zealand T20 Series

Mount Maunganui — Australia has suffered a setback ahead of their T20 series against New Zealand, with star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell ruled out after sustaining a wrist injury during net practice.

The 36-year-old, who recently guided Australia to a T20 series win over South Africa with an unbeaten half-century, was struck on the wrist while bowling in the nets at Mount Maunganui. He will fly back to Australia for further assessment by a specialist.

Wicketkeeper-batter Josh Philippe has been drafted into the squad as Maxwell’s replacement for the three-match series against the Black Caps at Bay Oval on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Philippe has been in strong form, recently starring as player of the series during Australia ‘A’s tour of India and continuing his run-scoring exploits in the Big Bash League.

Maxwell’s recovery timeline remains uncertain, with Cricket Australia confirming he will undergo medical review in the coming days.

Meanwhile, England’s veteran all-rounder Chris Woakes has officially announced his retirement from international cricket, drawing the curtain on a decorated career.
