May 9 Riots Shershah & Shahrez Khan Arrested

Two Men Arrested Over May 9 Attacks Face Charges of Violence and Arson

Islamabad – Security authorities have arrested two men allegedly involved in the violent incidents at Jinnah House and other acts of arson and vandalism on May 9, 2023.

According to FIRs, Shershah Khan participated in setting police vans ablaze, attacking security personnel, and damaging state property. Video evidence and geo-fencing data reportedly confirm Aleema Khan’s son was present at the scene during the attacks.

Shershah is said to have fled abroad after the riots, spending nearly two years in London while allegedly running anti-state campaigns online. He was taken into custody upon returning to Pakistan on August 22, 2025.

Shahrez Khan, the second suspect, is accused of planning and actively participating in the attacks. His name appeared in a supplementary investigation report in September 2023. Shahrez was arrested on August 21, 2025, and presented before the court on August 22 following the formal registration of the FIR.

Both men face charges including incitement to violence, arson, vandalism, and assault on police officials. Authorities have requested a 30-day physical remand to conduct polygraph tests and further investigations.

Security officials stressed that the arrests demonstrate that no one is above the law. “May 9 was an act of treason, and all those involved will face justice in accordance with the law,” a statement read.

Earlier, an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore had approved a five-day physical remand for Shershah Khan, the son of Aleema Khan and nephew of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, in connection with the Jinnah House attack case.
