Metro Bus Service Partially Suspended for Chehlum in Rawalpindi
RAWALPINDI — The Metro Bus service between Saddar Station and Faizabad will remain suspended today (Friday) due to the observance of Chehlum for the martyrs of Karbala, the administration announced.
Officials confirmed that Metro operations within Islamabad — from IJP to the Pak Secretariat — will continue as normal. The decision for partial suspension was made on the instructions of the district administration, citing security concerns during the day’s processions.
Authorities said the move aims to facilitate smooth security arrangements in the twin cities. Commuters travelling on the Rawalpindi section have been advised to use alternative transport.
The Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions is being observed across the country with solemnity, commemorating their sacrifice for the cause of Islam. Mourning processions are underway in various cities to pay tribute to the martyrs of Karbala.
Security measures have been tightened, with containers placed to block entry points around procession routes. In Karachi, the main Chehlum procession will start from Nishtar Park and conclude at Hussainia Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar, following its traditional path. Additional police and Rangers contingents have been deployed at Numaish and surrounding areas to maintain order.
