Border Operation Foils Infiltration Attempt by Afghan Militants; Kalat Bus Attack Leaves 3 Dead
ISLAMABAD – Pakistani security forces successfully thwarted a cross-border infiltration attempt on Thursday, capturing five Afghan nationals linked to the militant group “Khawarij,” according to official sources.
The intelligence-led operation began at 5:00 PM when surveillance teams detected the group attempting to cross into Pakistan. By 6:25 PM, the suspects had breached the border near the Azizkhel and Mandikhel areas. Swift action by the security forces led to the establishment of five strategic blockades.
The militants attempted to hide in the Besi Khel area, but were surrounded and surrendered without resistance. All five suspects, aged between 15 and 18, are Afghan nationals—three of whom were carrying Afghan identity documents. They have been moved to an undisclosed location for further interrogation.
The operation is part of an intensified counter-terrorism campaign. Between April 25 and 27, 71 Khawarij militants were killed in North Waziristan. On July 4, another 30 suspected militants, reportedly backed by foreign elements, were eliminated. Earlier this year, 16 infiltrators were killed during a March 23 border operation.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, three passengers were killed and seven others injured in a terrorist attack on a passenger bus in Kalat, Balochistan.
The attack occurred in the Neemargh area as the bus was en route from Karachi to Quetta. Armed terrorists ambushed the vehicle, prompting a swift response from security forces and rescue teams. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital, with at least two in critical condition.
Authorities continue to investigate both incidents and have ramped up border surveillance to prevent future threats.
