On Tuesday, Prime Minister Imran Khan named Dr. Moeed Yusuf designated National Security Adviser on National Security Division and Strategic Policy Planning.
The cabinet division released a notification announcing Dr. Yusuf’s appointment to the position.

According to the communique, the role would be equal to that of a federal minister.
Before Moeed Yusuf designated National Security Adviser, he was appointed as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM). Also, he worked on National Security Division and Strategic Policy Planning on December 24, 2019. Additionally, he had achieved the status of Minister of State.
Moreover, Yusuf is an associate vice president at the United States Institute of Peace’s (USIP) Asia Center. Brokering Peace in Nuclear Environments: US Crisis Management in South Asia is his book.
Besides this, in October 2019, he was named chairman of the National Security Division’s Strategic Policy Planning Cell (SPPC) (NSD). The prime purpose of the cell is to assist the government by conducting research and developing policy proposals on national issues.
Yusuf earned a master’s degree in international relations and also, a doctorate in political science from Boston University.
Until joining USIP in 2010, he was a research fellow at the Frederick S Padree Centre for the Study of the Longer Term Future at Boston University‘s Political Science Department’s Padree School of Global Studies.
