Indian icon Tabu will star in the "Dune" prequel

According to an exclusive report from Variety, Indian icon Tabu has joined the cast of the much awaited Max prequel series Dune: Prophecy in a recurring role. The 2019 television series, which was initially commissioned under the title Dune: The Sisterhood, was inspired by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson’s novel Sisterhood of Dune.

Dune: Prophecy delves into the universe of the saga, taking place 10,000 years before to Paul Atreides’ ascent. It centers on the adventures of two sisters named Harkonnen as they fight dangers to humanity’s future and establish the Bene Gesserit religion. The show has not yet revealed a premiere date, despite its interesting idea.

Tabu’s casting as Sister Francesca gives the story more nuance and attraction. The return of Sister Francesca to the palace after playing a major role in the Emperor’s life creates tension in the capital’s power dynamics. She is described as strong, clever, and seductive.

The series’ appeal is further enhanced by Tabu’s renowned name in Indian cinema, which lends gravity to the production. Dune: Prophecy has encountered some difficulties, such as a creative rewrite in 2023 and a shift of showrunners. But with the two Dune movies that have already been produced being so successful and earning over $1.1 billion in total, interest in the series is higher than ever.

In the world of Indian film, Tabu is a well-known character with an impressive resume full of awards and positive reviews. Throughout her remarkable career, she has won numerous accolades, such as the esteemed National Film Award for Best Actress, which she has twice won for her performances in Maachis and Chandni Bar.

Appreciated for her richness and complexity as a performer, Tabu has won seven Filmfare Awards for her roles in a wide range of movies, including Haider, Cheeni Kum, and the suspenseful thriller Andhadhun. Outside of Bollywood, Tabu has demonstrated her talent in highly regarded international projects such as The Namesake, Life of Pi, and the BBC miniseries A Suitable Boy.
