A spokesperson from the Home Department said that 74 people have been arrested for posting hateful content on social media.
They explained that a special cyber team is watching social media for any posts that spread religious hate or provoke others.
The spokesperson said that the government is taking quick action against such posts and is following a zero-tolerance policy for hate speech online.
He also advised people not to share any content that could cause religious conflict.
Earlier, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari warned that anyone who posts false or hateful content during Muharram will be immediately arrested.
At a press conference in Lahore, she said that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has told the authorities to take strict action against anything that spreads hate, sectarianism, or violence during Muharram.
She also said a special cybersecurity team will work with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to watch social media closely.
People who spread false information may face account suspension and legal action.
