NAB files graft reference against Imran Bushra in Toshakhana case

Doctors discover no proof that Bushra Bibi was poisoned, despite all tests coming up clear

After carefully examining the case, the accountability court’s registrar’s office is prepared to take more measures.

In response to graft charges, the NAB Rawalpindi has only nominated Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi as accused parties in the reference.

The reference was filed with the registrar’s office for additional legal action by NAB prosecutor Sohail Arif and Investigation Officer Mohsin Haroon.

This is the result of the accountability court’s rejection of the National Bureau of Investigation’s (NAB) plea for a longer physical remand of Khan in the Toshakhana case on Saturday. The former PTI chairman was placed on judicial remand for 21 days by the court, which rejected the bureau’s motion. The date of the hearing was postponed to January 6.

Imran sent on Judicial Remand in the Toshakhana Case

The crux of the accusations revolves around Khan and Bushra allegedly retaining gifts received during their official visits to foreign countries while Imran Khan served as the prime minister. Instead of following the prescribed official protocol by depositing these gifts in the Toshakhana, the couple purportedly kept them and contributed an amount less than the stipulated value into the national treasury.

It is alleged that Bushra in particular has kept a variety of jewellery pieces that she received as gifts during official travels. A locket, two rings, two ear tips, and two bracelets that were received on June 26, 2019, are among the purportedly retained gifts. She purportedly purchased an ear top, ring, bracelet, and gold necklace with diamonds in 2020. In 2021, a bracelet, ring, earrings, and necklace were added to the list.

Despite repeated requests from the NAB for the return of these gifts, especially the jewelry items, Bushra has allegedly failed to comply. In response, the NAB directed her to appear at the NAB Rawalpindi office on December 11 and bring the specified ornaments with her. Subsequently, Bushra obtained bail until December 13 in this case from the accountability court in Islamabad.
