Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General (DG) Maj-Gen Ahmed Sharif stated that the plot to assassinate the Chinese engineers was developed in Afghanistan.
At the beginning of the press briefing, Maj Gen Sharif discussed the recent tensions with Afghanistan and the assaults against Pakistan that had been launched from Afghan territory.
He claimed that Pakistan has lost a great deal of its law enforcement and military personnel in the fight against terrorism. Everyone is aware that Pakistan made every effort to promote peace throughout the region, particularly in Afghanistan. The most significant contributor to regional peace has been Pakistan.”
He insisted that more than any other nation in the world, Pakistan has taken in and assisted a significant number of Afghan refugees.
According to the military spokesperson, TTP militants have “continuously committed acts of terrorism in Pakistan” in spite of Islamabad’s efforts and the intelligence it has given Afghan authorities.
He continued by saying that there has been no improvement to date and that recent terrorist attacks in Pakistan can be linked to terrorist strongholds in Afghanistan.
The Foreign Office (FO) has filed 12 protests with the interim Afghan authorities, and the army chief has also taken a clear stand on the matter, Maj Gen Sharif said. “But there is concrete evidence that TTP terrorists are still using Afghan soil to launch attacks in Pakistan,” he continued.
“Pakistan will do everything in its power to destroy terrorist organizations and safeguard its people.”
According to him, Pakistan’s military forces would stop at nothing to “suppress the terrorists and their patrons and enablers.”
Terrorists have been “busy in attempting to worsen” the security situation in K-P and Balochistan, according to the DG ISPR, who also mentioned the January attack on the Mach FC camp that was stopped by security personnel.
He also mentioned other attacks, stating that Pakistan launched strikes across the Pakistan-Afghan border to target terrorists’ safe havens in reaction to the big attacks.
To provide more details, he stated that as of now in 2024, security forces had conducted 13,135 IBOs throughout Pakistan, resulting in the arrest of 396 people and the sending of 249 terrorists to hell.
“The Pakistani Army, police, intelligence services, and other law enforcement agencies conduct over 100 operations against terrorists every day.”
The military spokesman addressed the issue of Afghan nationals residing in the nation and stated that the government decided to bring them back in the “larger interest of the country” when deciding to repatriate them.
No nation on earth permits undocumented immigrants to live and work as they choose, and in Pakistan, he claimed, these people were hurting the nation’s economy and making law and order worse.
563,639 unlawful Afghan citizens have been deported to their homeland, according to Maj Gen Sharif.
A spokeswoman for the army responded that May 9 was “not just the Pakistan Army’s case, but the entire country’s” when questioned about it.
Following the PTI supremo’s arrest on May 9 of last year, followers of PTI founder Imran Khan vandalized landmarks and military facilities.
He insisted that hate is generated between the armed forces and the populace in any nation whenever an attack is made on the home of the founder, the monuments honoring the fallen, or any other symbolic object.
“And the justice system of that country is called into question if the individuals responsible are not brought to justice.”
“We feel that the May 9 perpetrators, the doers, and those ordering them, must be sentenced in accordance with the law and the Constitution if we are to continue having faith in Pakistan’s judicial system.”
The military spokeswoman declared, “Nothing is hidden about May 9,” adding that everyone witnessed the events take place.
According to Maj Gen Sharif, “certain political leaders” gave orders on the same day to target military installations. “We all saw how everyone was [brainwashed] against the army, its leadership, agencies, and institutions through lies and propaganda,” the general stated.
He went on to say that following the events of May 9, a false narrative was spread claiming that the day’s events were a “false flag operation.”
