Names for 19-member cabinet handed to Aiwan-e-Sadr

As Pakistan chose Shehbaz Sharif to be its 24th prime minister, world leaders congratulated and sent their best wishes to the newly sworn-in leader, who assumed power for the second time in a row.

One day after winning the prime ministership, Shehbaz took his oath on Monday, maintaining the title during his 16-month tenure from April 2022 to August 2023.

Several international leaders congratulated the recently elected premier on taking up the role of the nation’s chief executive and sent their best wishes for him to succeed in his next five years in office.

According to state-run Radio Pakistan, Shehbaz received congratulations from Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman, during his swearing-in ceremony.

The crown prince wished Pakistan’s people continued growth and prosperity as well as success for the incoming prime minister.

Donald Blome, the US ambassador to Pakistan, congratulated PM Shehbaz on taking office as well.

Blome stated in a statement posted on the social networking site X, formerly known as Twitter, that his nation is eager to collaborate closely on shared interests with the new Pakistani administration and populace.

Lord David Cameron, the foreign secretary of the United Kingdom, expressed his excitement in collaborating with PM Shehbaz and his team.

“In Pakistan’s history, this is a pivotal moment. Crucial reforms must be implemented by the incoming government and it must serve all Pakistani residents,” he said on X.

Furthermore, in a letter, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas thanked the newly appointed prime minister and offered his best wishes for leading the country.

According to Abbas’ statement, Pakistan has always stood up for the rights and justice of the Palestinian people, and the two countries have a long and close history together.

He prayed for Pakistan’s growth and well-being.

In his congrats, President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan emphasized that his nation and Pakistan will work together to strengthen and broaden their long-term bilateral cooperation.

According to him, the two nations are connected by a long history of respect, trust, friendship, and understanding.

Rahmon went on to say that based on such positive customs, the diverse partnership between Pakistan and Tajikistan is always evolving and becoming richer with fresh information.

Anwar Ibrahim, the prime minister of Malaysia, called Shehbaz, his newly elected counterpart in Pakistan, to congratulate him on assuming the prime ministership.

In response, Prime Minister Shehbaz said that Pakistan and Malaysia have had cordial ties for a long time and that Pakistan wished to strengthen its diplomatic and commercial ties with Malaysia.

The presidents of Iran and Turkey had already congratulated Shehbaz on his appointment as prime minister.

With the backing of his party and seven additional allies, Shehbaz secured 201 votes on Sunday to take office as prime minister of the nation.

His win was anticipated since, in addition to the PML-N, he had the backing of seven other parties. Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), Pakistan Muslim League-Zia (PML-Z), National Party (NP), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), and Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) support the newly elected prime minister.

Shehbaz has now been chosen as prime minister twice in a row. Following Imran Khan’s ouster from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in 2022 due to a no-confidence motion, he was previously chosen as the country’s 23rd prime minister.

From April 11, 2022, to August 20, 2023, Shehbaz held the position of prime minister. After that, he delegated control of the government to a caretaker arrangement.
