Pakistan earned $1,454.881 million in the first half of the current fiscal year 2023–24 by providing various Information Technology (IT) services to other nations. Based on data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), this figure reflects a rise of 8.98% over the $1,334.969 million earned during the same period in the previous fiscal year 2022–23.
From July to December of 2023–2024, the export of computer services increased by 10.32%, from $1,064.579 million to $1,174.481 million. Of these computer services, the exports of hardware consultancy services increased by 3.401% to $404.875 million this year, while the exports of software consultancy services declined by 0.11% to $3.394 million.
However, there was a notable 39.15% drop in the export of repair and maintenance services, from $1.530 million to $0.930 million. In contrast, there was a 2.79% growth in computer software services imports and exports, going from $302.376 million to $310.807 million.
During the review period, information services exports fell from $2.180 million to $1.750 million, a 19.72% reduction. The export of information-related services rose from $0.687 million to $0.712 million, a 3.64% rise, within the information services sector. On the other hand, news agency services exports fell from $1.493 million to $1.038 million, a 30.48% decline.
The telecom services export climbed from $268.021 million to $278.650 million, a 3.89% rise. Contact center services saw a 12.14% increase in exports from $107.006 million to $119.994 million among these communications services. However, PBS data shows that during this year, exports of other communications services decreased somewhat by 1.58%, from $161.204 million to $158.656 million.
In the first half of the fiscal year 2023–24, Pakistan’s revenue from IT services increased overall, with noteworthy increases in computer services and certain telecommunications service areas. Nonetheless, there were decreases in a few categories, including specific information services and repair and maintenance services.
