For Pakistani fitness enthusiasts, this was a good news as Karachi held Pakistan’s first-ever internationally certified marathon on Sunday.
Due to international standards, appropriate routes, and other crucial elements of marathons hosted overseas in cities like Paris, London, etc., the World Athletics-certified Marathon provided its participants with a unique experience.
Sohail Amir won the 42.2-kilometer full marathon at the event, finishing in a time of two hours, 36 minutes, and nine seconds.
Meanwhile, Aamer Abbas took third place, and Israr Khatak came in second. Mahnoor was the winner of the women’s full marathon, however.
In one hour, seventeen minutes, and twelve seconds, Hafeezul Barkat finished the 21.1-kilometer half marathon. Akram came in second in the half marathon, while Zaher Shah took third.
Muhammad Junaid also ran in the marathon; he covered 21.21 kilometers at a rate of 5:05 km/h in 1 hour, 47 minutes, and 51 seconds.
According to Shoaib Nizam, CEO of Sports in Pakistan, there has been a discernible increase in Pakistani interest in marathon running within the last eight to ten years.
“Numerous individuals have engaged in international marathons such as Berlin, Chicago, London, and Tokyo, inspiring a growing interest in participation within Pakistan,” he stated.
