Indian tennis player Sania Mirza, who is more well-known for her previous marriage to Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik than for her skills on the court, joked on Indian television that she would definitely find love again.
Sania is scheduled to appear on Netflix’s The Great Indian Kapil show. A teaser for the show has already been making the rounds online, and in it, she talks briefly about her romantic life. Hindustan Times reports that former boxer Mary Kom and badminton player Saina Nehwal will be included in the next episode of the show, which will focus on Indian women athletes.
Sania is reminded by host Kapil of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s kind offer to portray her romantic partner in film should the need ever arise. Sania says, “I have to find a love interest first!”
Due to her past involvement in one of the most well-known international power couples of the 2000s, Sania’s personal life has unintentionally come under much more scrutiny than her tennis accomplishments. After Shoaib seemingly appeared out of nowhere and shocked the internet with pictures of himself and actor Sana Javed from their wedding, Sania formally announced her divorce from her ex-husband in January of this year. Together, Sania and Shoaib have one son.
Although Shoaib’s unexpected attention can be intimidating, especially after his shocking marriage announcement earlier this year, the tennis player doesn’t seem to let it show on her social media persona, at least not in the eyes of fans. Similar to her ex-husband, Sania rarely shares personal information on Instagram, but she frequently uses the platform to make subtle allusions to her mental health.
Sania shared a picture of herself sitting in reflection three days ago. Sania wrote the caption, “No matter what, you always have to show up,” to go along with the picture, demonstrating the mental toughness of a disciplined athlete. Her admirers flooded the comments section with messages about how Sania had inspired them and heart emojis. In a show of support, one fan went one step further and wrote, “You glow different when you leave a toxic man.”
