PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said that the Pakistan cricket squad will practice alongside the Pakistan Army for ten days, from March 25 to April 8, in Islamabad. The aim of the camp is to improve the players’ level of fitness after the Pakistan Super League (PSL) ends.
Naqvi underlined the significance of enhancing players’ fitness after observing a reduction in it during PSL matches, particularly in light of forthcoming matches against New Zealand, Ireland, England, and the T20 World Cup. The Army will assist in running the training program, which will take place at the Kakul Military Academy.
The camp’s scheduling may raise concerns for some players, though, given it falls during the hectic cricket season and during Ramadan, when fasting may have an adverse effect on energy levels. Notwithstanding some reservations, military training camps have had beneficial results in the past, as seen by Misbah-ul-Haq’s outstanding performance following his attendance at one prior to a series against England.
In addition, Naqvi advised players to put their national responsibilities ahead of their involvement in high-paying T20 competitions, citing examples such as Haris Rauf’s decision to decline Pakistan’s invitation to tour Australia. He underlined the importance of making personal sacrifices for the betterment of Pakistani cricket, as well as the PCB’s dedication to funding player development, which includes coaching, training, and conditioning at every level.
