Orlando Bloom Opens Up About Intense Weight-Cutting for ‘The Cut’

Orlando Bloom, who stars as Boxer in Sean Ellis’ psychological thriller The Cut, has revealed how a rapid weight-loss transformation for the role took a toll on both his body and mind.

The film, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year and hits theaters on September 5, follows Boxer, a Las Vegas fighter who comes out of retirement to chase a championship. To prepare, he endures a grueling training regimen under a demanding and unconventional coach, including extreme weight-cutting measures.

Speaking recently on television, Bloom, 48, admitted, “I was just exhausted. Mentally, physically, I was hangry. I had no energy or brain power. I was a horrible person to be around.”

The Pirates of the Caribbean star went on to describe the psychological strain of his diet changes. “When my nutritionist tiered me down from three meals a day to two, I started having intrusive thoughts,” he said. “Suddenly, all these foods were being taken away from me, and my protein powder was the last one. I was like, ‘No! Don’t take that one.’ In the end, I was living on just tuna and cucumber for the final three weeks.”

Bloom’s candid reflections shed light on the often-overlooked challenges actors face when transforming their bodies for demanding roles.
