Packers Dominate Commanders Behind Love’s Big Night
GREEN BAY — Jordan Love delivered a statement performance on Thursday night, throwing for 292 yards and leading the Green Bay Packers to a convincing win over the Washington Commanders. Love did most of his damage early, racking up 214 yards in the first half — the best opening half of his young career.
Tight end Tucker Kraft emerged as a breakout star, finishing with six catches for 124 yards and his first career 100-yard game, highlighted by a touchdown grab. Running back Josh Jacobs added to his remarkable consistency, scoring for the 10th straight game on the ground. That streak places him among elite company with LaDainian Tomlinson, Jonathan Taylor, and Priest Holmes.
The Packers’ defense set the tone by relentlessly pressuring Washington rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. Green Bay tallied 12 quarterback hits and four sacks, with Micah Parsons drawing double and even triple teams yet still managing a half-sack and three hits.
Washington, coming off last year’s NFC Championship run, struggled to find rhythm. The Commanders were held to just 230 yards of total offense, with Daniels limited to 200 passing yards and only 17 on the ground. Injuries piled up as Deatrich Wise Jr., Noah Brown, John Bates, and Austin Ekeler all exited the game.
On the other side, Washington’s defense couldn’t keep pace, giving up 406 yards and allowing eight plays of 15 yards or more. Their secondary looked vulnerable to the Packers’ motion-heavy and play-action attack, while kicker Matt Gay’s continued inconsistency from distance added to the frustration.
With the win, Green Bay improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2020 — the same year they went on to win 13 games. The Packers now turn their attention to the Cleveland Browns on Sept. 21. Washington dropped to 1-1 and will look to bounce back at home against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 3.
