Pakistan Navy Highlights Maritime Security, Launches HANGOR Submarine Project
Karachi, August 2025 – At a prestigious ceremony in Karachi, Pakistan Navy reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding national interests and promoting a secure maritime environment amid evolving geo-strategic challenges in the region.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest underscored the vital role of maritime security and emphasized that the Navy stands ready to defend the country’s sovereignty at sea.
He drew particular attention to the HANGOR Class Submarines, noting that their state-of-the-art weapon systems and advanced sensors would strengthen regional power balance and support long-term maritime stability.
Appreciating the contributions of China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Company Ltd (CSOC), he expressed satisfaction over the project’s progress and said the initiative would add a new chapter to the longstanding Pakistan–China partnership.
Pakistan had earlier signed an agreement with CSOC to acquire eight HANGOR-class submarines. Under the deal, four are being built in China, while the other four will be constructed at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works (KS&EW) under a Technology Transfer (ToT) program.
The launching ceremony was attended by senior officials from both countries, including representatives from Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group Company Ltd and CSOC.
Meanwhile, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf also conferred military awards at the Pakistan Navy Investiture Ceremony 2025, held at the Bahria Auditorium, Karachi. Officers and sailors were honored for their outstanding services, with recipients of the Tamgha-i-Basalat (Military) including Commander Munawar Ahmed Bhatti PN, Commander Naeem Ahmed Khan PN, Sadam Hussain PMT-I, and Zain Ali PMT-II.
The ceremony was attended by a large number of serving and retired senior naval officers.
