ATC revokes the arrest warrant for Marriyum Aurangzeb

Marriyum Aurangzeb, the head of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), was the subject of a non-bailable arrest order, which was revoked by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore on Saturday after she appeared in court to hear a case brought against her.

September of last year saw the filing of a complaint against former PML-N leader and information minister Javed Latif for allegedly inciting hatred towards Muslims and labelling the head of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as non-Muslim on a talk show.

On November 25, 2023, ATC Judge Abher Gul cancelled Latif’s arrest warrants for showing up to the court summons and issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Marriyum for failing to appear.

Since she had arrived in court, the court today revoked her warrants and ordered her to file the written ruling of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) about the co-accused.

The case hearing was postponed until January 6, 2024.

The party leader claimed in a statement to the media today that the case against her was “created” after “they” (the PML-N) disclosed that Imran, the former prime minister, would target government institutions.

She went on to say that the individual who had the lawsuit filed against her was now facing accusations of his own related to the events of May 9 and that he had made off with a £190 million theft, calling it the largest crime in the history of the nation.

Recall that during PTI politician Pervaiz Elahi’s tenure as Punjab’s chief minister, complainant Irshadur Rehman filed the first information report (FIR) at the Green Town Police station.

She told the reporters that Nawaz Sharif, the leader of the Pakistan Muslim League, was removed from office because he refused to pay his son’s wages. Marriyum chastised the PTI, saying, “They loot themselves and then question how the country’s economy has deteriorated.”

She accused Imran of using his position as prime minister to amass fortune, and she chastised the PTI officials for not just stealing but also for being “stubborn” after the fact.

“You will have to answer if you attacked Jinnah House.”

Additionally, Marriyum asserted—citing the “London plan”—that Nawaz was the target of false accusations in court while also being exonerated by the IHC of any corrupt activities.

Marriyum asserted that Pakistan’s people would elect Nawaz to serve as prime minister a fourth time and that the nation’s economy would stabilize like it did in 2017
