After the party emerged as the largest in the province, there had been days of discussion over who would be the party’s nomination for chief minister. On Tuesday, Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), suggested Ali Amin Khan Gandapur to be the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Speaking to reporters at Adiala jail today, the PTI founder disclosed the information.
While PTI-backed candidates emerged as the largest group with over 90 seats in the National parliament, followed by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) with 75 seats, Khan, whose party got 84 seats in the KP parliament, is in a strong position to form the government.
The remarks of the former prime minister were made while influential political groups discussed a power-sharing arrangement to establish the Center government.
The PTI leader denied any coalition with the PML-N, PPP, or MQM-P in response to a question, stating that he has instructed the party to initiate discussions with other parties.
He claimed that the top money launderers are those who are brought in.
Although Imran Khan cautioned that last week’s elections would cause economic volatility, he stated that elections offer stability to the nation’s economy in his initial remarks on the votes conducted in February.
Sources claim that Khan instructed the PTI on the KP’s chief minister, and the previous ruling party will shortly release a statement on the matter.
Khan, meanwhile, said that when PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif canceled his news conference, he knew his party had won the polls. “Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz have lost both elections,” he stated.
He added that while in prison, PTI chief Aliya Hamza had gotten more than 100,000 votes.
Khan responded that his party would first contest the election results when asked if it was forming a government in the province or the center.
“We will also approach the Supreme Court against the poll results,” he stated.
The outgoing prime minister stated that while they will think about it, they have not yet decided on a name for the position.
The PTI founder, however, stated that the court will consider a plea asking for the transfer of his wife, Bushra Bibi, to Adiala jail. In the Toshakhana case, she received a 10-year prison term; in the illegal marriage case, she received a seven-year sentence.
