Arrested is the suspect in the "social media campaign" against CJP Isa

Law enforcement officials detained a suspect on Thursday who was spearheading a campaign of intimidation against Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa.

According to the authorities, Abdul Wasay, a Rawalpindi resident, launched an online campaign critical of the chief judge. They said that the suspect threatened the CJP on X and tried to damage his reputation.

They declared, “We’ll identify the remaining campaign participants and take legal action against them.”

A joint investigative team (JIT) has been established by the government to look into the individuals behind social media campaigns that defame judges of the Supreme Court, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), and public servants.

The extra director general of the FIA Cybercrime Wing would lead the JIT, which would begin operations today (Thursday).

A deputy inspector general of the Islamabad Police, a 20-grade officer of the Intelligence Bureau, a representative of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, and any other co-opted representative, such as an IT specialist, would be included in the forum.

The JIT’s primary assignment is to look into three areas in particular.

“To determine the truth behind a malicious social media campaign that aims to discredit the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s honorable judges, to find and prosecute those responsible in line with applicable laws, to force cases to be brought before the relevant courts, and to suggest preventative measures against the recurrence of such incidents in the future,” stated the notification.

Within fifteen days, the JIT would deliver an initial report to the Interior Ministry.

A government spokesman, meantime, informed the media that it is forbidden for anyone to engage in nefarious operations that undermine democracy by dishonest means.

According to a story released in this publication today, he stated that the JIT has been entrusted with investigating a number of actions, such as the spread of false information on social media platforms, the printing of phony ballot papers, and propaganda meant to sway public opinion.

The spokesperson claimed that a dark campaign was used to try and influence government officers’ allegiance. He stressed that the caretaker government has confirmed that such behavior would not be accepted and that those found guilty would be dealt with swiftly and severely.

To obtain proof and determine the scope of the misconduct, the JIT would work with the IT specialists. The government spokeswoman stated that the forum would register cases and suggest suitable actions against the guilty parties.
