Nationwide Crackdown on Counterfeit Medicines in Pakistan
Authorities across Pakistan have launched a major operation against counterfeit medicines, seizing multiple batches of fake drugs from markets nationwide.
The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) reported that the confiscated medicines included treatments for fever, body pain, bacterial infections, ulcers, and anxiety disorders.
Provincial Drug Control Departments carried out the raids, recovering 10 counterfeit products from various locations. Acting on requests from provincial health authorities, DRAP has issued rapid alerts to warn the public and healthcare providers about the dangers of these fake medicines.
Among the seized items were counterfeit antibiotics, nasal sprays, anti-allergy medicines, gastrointestinal treatments, and diuretics. Laboratory testing confirmed that the samples were fake, lacking authentic ingredients and any verified efficacy, making them potentially life-threatening.
DRAP further revealed that these medicines were illegally manufactured and marketed under the names of well-known national and multinational brands, with labels falsely showing addresses in Karachi and Kasur.
Authorities are urging citizens to report any suspicious or fake medicines they encounter. Provincial drug control departments and regulatory agencies have been instructed to strengthen monitoring and enforcement to safeguard public health.
