Pakistan Covid-19 positivity ratio drops to 3.96pc

ISLAMABAD: 1,594 more people tested positive for COVID-19, 48 patients died in a single day and the average positivity ratio remained at 3.96 percent on Sunday.

Punjab reported most deaths i.e. 24. However, Sindh reported 13 deaths, Khyber Pakhtun­khwa (KP) reported 6, while Islamabad and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) reported 2 deaths in each, and Balochistan reported 1 death.

According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, out of 48 deaths, 23 died on ventilators. Therefore, the total number of deaths increased to 11,295.

Moreover, the positivity ratio of Sindh was 10.23pc, AJK 5.97pc, KP 5.25pc, Balochistan 3.52pc, Punjab 2.54pc, Islamabad 1.18pc and GB 0.56pc.

Therefore, the highest positivity ratio was observed in Hyderabad with 11.57pc, followed by Peshawar at 11.29pc and Karachi at 10.68pc.

Critical patients


2,273 Covid-19 patients were in critical condition, 304 ventilators were occupied across the country with no patient on the vent in AJK, Gilgit Bal­tistan (GB), and Balochistan.

The data regarding ventilators showed that in Multan 38pc ventilators were in use, Lahore’s 37pc, Islamabad’s 35pc, and Bahawalpur’s 32pc vents were occupied.

Oxygen bed-related data depicted that in Peshawar 45pc, Karachi’s 38pc, Multan’s 36pc, and Rawalpindi’s 27pc beds were occupied.

The total number of active Covid-19 cases in Pakistan are 34,628. 486,489 people recovered from the disease. Pakistan conducted 7.6 million C0VID-19 tests.

In Punjab; Bahawalpur’s positivity ratio was 4.46pc, Lahore’s 4.23pc, Faisalabad’s 3.21pc, Multan’s 1.91pc, and Rawalpindi’s positivity ratio was 1.14pc.

In Sindh; Hyderabad’s positivity was 11.57pc, and Karachi’s 10.68pc. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Peshawar’s positivity rate was 11.29pc, Swat’s 3.41pc, and Abbottabad reported a 0.31pc positivity rate.

In Balochistan; Quetta’s positivity was 2.41pc, Islamabad’s 1.18pc. In AJK, Mirpur’s positivity was 5.04pc and Muzaffarabad reported 2.5pc. In GB, Gilgit’s positivity was 1.41pc.

The mortality rate in patients, infected with the deadly virus, was 2.12pc as compared to the 2.14pc global rate.

In Pakistan; 69pc males had been infected and 77.9pc of the deceased were over the age of 50 years, 74pc had chronic comorbidities, 91pc of deceased remained hospitalized, and 58pc of hospitalized patients remained on ventilators.

First COVID-19 Case

China detected the world’s first coronavirus case in December 2019. Pakistan closed its borders in the last week of February 2020 and after that, they took a number of steps to stop the transmission of disease. The National Security Committee (NSC) held its first meeting to discuss the crisis on March 13. The crisis, therefore, was later declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
