What does it say about our society as a whole when a man publishes a picture of his wife making a beautiful gesture and is then deluged with sexual comments? Nothing positive, that’s for sure.
Let’s review: Today is Shadab Khan’s birthday, and he is now in India with the ICC World Cup 2023 squad. The all-around player shared a video on Tuesday night on Instagram and X (previously Twitter) that featured his hotel room decked out in birthday decorations, including flowers, presents, and images of him arranged on the bed, along with the comment “Birthday surprise from my wife. I’m so grateful to Allah for bringing her into my life.
You would think that’s a sweet message, but apparently you would be wrong as many users on X decided to only focus on — wait for it — the bed.
Khan removed the video from the platform later, but the responses it received haven’t left us yet. Why did people start making filthy innuendos and lewd remarks at the mere sight of a bed, adorned or not?
Is our culture so against love that a wife’s lovely and romantic gesture comes off as merely carnal to us? We should all be concerned when a thoughtful act is overtly sexualized.
His Instagram post received negative feedback for enjoying his birthday “instead of getting ready for the tournament.” Look, we care just as much about the success of our team as anyone else, but this truly takes surveillance to a new level. If individuals are such devoted supporters, they might think twice before making offensive comments about the player.
Our people must understand that superstars are genuine people who go about their daily lives while working, just like the rest of us. So don’t worry; the team will play like it should regardless of whether someone’s wife surprises them or not.
Such responses to what Shadab intended to be a straightforward expression of gratitude for his wife demonstrate our lack of limits and the fact that we have completely forgotten about love and confused it with sexuality. Many individuals believe that displaying affection is improper and should be ashamed of because it is not a part of our “culture”. We won’t be able to alter how we perceive things unless this thinking is altered and we begin to view love as a lovely emotion rather than something taboo that needs to be hidden away. A bed is a good example!
This situation begs the question: If a young couple who recently wed, with the husband being one of Pakistan’s most adored cricketers and the wife being a private individual who also happens to be the daughter of renowned cricketer Saqlain Mushtaq, can endure such disgusting remarks, what must it be like for regular people who experience bullying from online trolls?
Such comments demonstrate both the stage of deterioration in which our society is currently in and the disregard with which the trolls hold the principles they so vehemently promote. We wish Shadab Khan a joyous birthday celebration devoid of any thought for such hateful remarks.
