Faysal Quraishi responded to fan feedback  of the well-liked drama series Khaie

Veteran Pakistani actor Faysal Quraishi recently addressed fan feedback and concerns about the plot of the famous drama series Khaie in an interview with a local television network. The actor addressed the concerns raised by certain viewers over how particular communities—like the Pashtun community—were portrayed in the program.

“I am receiving a lot of messages from people who told me, without mentioning the names of their tribes and areas, that they moved out of their native areas because of such rivalries,” Quraishi said in response to the criticism. It was challenging for their forefathers to live in those regions because of the rivalries that were fostered. These kinds of messages are very common, and they do relate to the narrative.

“A few friends were upset too, wondering why Pathans are portrayed in such a negative light,” he said. The problem is that it was not stated clearly that they are Pathan. It’s just the way you say it. Nobody is claiming to be a Pathan anywhere.”

Quraishi emphasized that Syed Wajahat Hussain, the director, had made the plot’s creative and imaginative elements more apparent. “Wajahat already informed us that this is a made-up universe that we are inhabiting. Savor it,” he said.

The drama Khaie, which stars Quraishi and Durefishan Saleem and has drawn a lot of attention, has come under fire for how it represents some groups and conflicts that are similar to challenges that exist in some real-world contexts. Quraishi’s answer seeks to allay worries while highlighting the artistic license used in developing the plot.

The fact that the actor acknowledged the messages from viewers who could identify with the story suggests that, at least for some, the drama does a good job of capturing the core of the socioeconomic and historical struggles that some groups have encountered. However, the team believes that a nuanced comprehension of the show’s aims depends on the distinction between fiction and reality, which is underlined by both Quraishi and the director.
