Elections have "more than ample resources," according to Solangi

It was announced on Saturday by Murtaza Solangi, the interim minister of information and broadcasting, that’more than adequate resources’ have been supplied for the February 8 national elections.

Speaking to the media in Islamabad, the acting minister gave assurances that the country will hold “free, fair, and transparent elections” and that the caretaker administration is committed to holding elections on the day that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has set.

According to the minister, the administration has ensured that voters would have complete protection on election day. The past few days have seen numerous attacks in various locations, contributing to the abrupt increase in violence that has been observed around the nation in recent weeks.

According to Solangi, the police would be in charge of providing security in the first place. The armed forces will function as the quick reaction force in the third layer, while the paramilitary forces will help as the second tier.

He added that there have been several deadlines set by the electoral watchdog for the voting process, including those for the transmission of results and the last round of voting.

All political parties and independent candidates in the race were notified by the ECP, in accordance with the laws, that their canvassing campaign had to conclude 48 hours prior to the polling day, which fell on February 6 or 7.

The ECP informed the candidates that no one would be allowed to organize or take part in any kind of political activity, including gatherings, parades, corner meetings, or the like, after 12 a.m. on February 6 and 7.

It said that “those who violate the law will face legal action.”

The ECP directed all returning officers and presiding officers to submit the poll results by two in the morning on February 8. If the results weren’t ready by then, though, they may be shared by 10 a.m. the next day.

The ECP said in a statement that technology will be fully utilized to ensure impartiality and transparency in the general elections of 2024.

It further stated that the Election Management System (EMS) would be utilized for that reason, and that the presiding officer in question would use it to send the photo of “Form 45” to the RO right away.

According to the statement, all polling station results must be sent electronically or by other available means to the presiding authorities.
