The Foreign Office (FO) insisted on Friday that Pakistan believed in its “sovereign right” to make judgments regarding its domestic affairs and that no nation could order Pakistan to look into claims of election tampering on February 8.
FO Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said at the weekly briefing in Islamabad, “Pakistan is a vibrant democracy and there are mechanisms in place inside Pakistan where Pakistani people can resolve any issue pertaining to questions relating to elections or any issue relating to the democratic process in Pakistan.”
She was answering a question concerning the repeated claims made by the US government, requesting that Pakistan look into the ballot fraud. “I think that no nation can offer Pakistan instructions. Pakistan is a sovereign and independent nation. We think it is our sovereign right to decide what matters internally in Pakistan,” she continued.
In addition to the US government’s response, a number of US congressmen urged the Biden administration in a letter not to recognize the new Pakistani government until the charges of election fraud were looked into.

Yes, we are aware that certain Congressmen have written the US Secretary of State a letter of that such. This correspondence is between American public servants and is not directed towards the Pakistani government. As a result, we are unable to comment on these letters,” the representative stated.
Mumtaz also refrained from commenting on the letter Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) sent to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), asking the Washington-based lending organization to engage in negotiations with only countries that are legitimate.
The official stated that Pakistan was in communication with US authorities regarding the arrest of four people who were thought to be Pakistanis for allegedly bringing weapons from Iran to Yemen.
“We’ve read the news release pertaining to the allegations mentioned above that was released by the US Department of Justice. We are coordinating with our mission in Washington and the US Embassy in Islamabad to gather additional information about the incident and to grant the individuals consular access once their nationality has been verified,” she continued.
During an operation by the US Navy Seals off the coast of Somalia in the Arabian Sea on January 11, the suspects were taken into custody. Muhammad Pehlwan, the primary suspect, was accused of delivering weapons to the Houthis in Yemen. It was alleged that the other three provided misleading information.
The spokeswoman denied any basis for rumors that other nations had already expressed their worries to Pakistan on the country’s decision to begin construction on the much-delayed, multibillion-dollar Iran gas pipeline project.
She affirmed that a decision about the Iran-Pakistan pipeline has already been made by the Cabinet Committee on Energy.
Pakistan views the Iran-Pakistan pipeline as a significant undertaking that represents the two nations’ relations. The Iran-Pakistan pipeline, among other projects, constitutes a significant part of Pakistan’s future energy mix, she added, adding that the government of Pakistan continues to place a high premium on ensuring energy security.
She said that the suggestions to resume work on the 80-kilometer segment of the pipeline that was located within Pakistani territory had been authorized by the Cabinet Committee on Energy.
And I can tell you about the most recent development as of right now. I wouldn’t want to comment on speculative reporting since I saw some reports in the media yesterday and I don’t know where they came from,” the woman stated.
