Pakistan Receives Final HPV Vaccine Shipment Ahead of Nationwide Cervical Cancer Drive

Islamabad – Pakistan has received the last batch of HPV vaccines, completing the full supply needed for the country’s first-ever nationwide cervical cancer immunization campaign, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

UNICEF has provided a total of 13 million doses of the HPV vaccine, accompanied by 13 million 0.3 ml syringes. The combined value of these vaccines and syringes is estimated at Rs 10 billion. The supplies have been donated through the Global Health Alliance, Gavi.

The nationwide vaccination campaign is scheduled to run from September 15 to 27 across Punjab, Sindh, Azad Kashmir, and Islamabad. Health authorities said the drive will focus on school-going girls aged 9 to 14 years, with registration already underway.

To encourage participation, parents will receive voice messages highlighting the benefits and safety of the HPV vaccine. Vaccinations will be carried out at fixed sites, community centers, and through mobile units to ensure wider coverage. Health teams will also visit schools to administer the vaccine directly to eligible students.

Each girl will receive one dose of the vaccine, which has been shown to significantly reduce the risk of cervical cancer—a preventable but potentially deadly disease if untreated.

Officials described the campaign as a landmark step in Pakistan’s public health efforts, aimed at protecting future generations of women from a life-threatening yet preventable illness.
