Iddat conviction is denounced by religious authorities as "un-Islamic, politically motivated"

The convictions of Imran Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in the Iddat case have been widely condemned by religious experts and muftis from different schools of thought. They have called the court’s ruling against Islamic principles and a deliberate conspiracy.

The Iddat case lacks any basis in religious, sharia, or legal jurisprudence, according to a video statement released on Thursday by Sunni Ittehad Council Chairman Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Majlis Wahdat al-Muslimeen Pakistan President Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafari, and former federal minister for religious affairs Pir Noorul Haq Qadri. They all think that Khan and his wife are the targets of a politically motivated case.

Qadri emphasized that scholars from all sects agree unanimously that only the woman’s testimony is considered credible in matters of Iddat. “Those involved in the decision should seek forgiveness from Allah Almighty and the victims,” he said. He described such conspiracies as intentional attempts to destroy family and marriage and urged the government and courts to stop them.

He called on legal professionals and academics of religion to approach this matter objectively and work to stop such plots.

Political disagreements in Pakistan frequently turn into hostility and breach moral, religious, and legal lines, according to Allama Raja Nasir. He criticized the legal system for bringing charges against a lady for her Iddat menstruation and for calling witnesses in such a case.

“Even if we opposed Imran Khan, we would still stand for what is right, as this issue pertains to religion and Islam,” Nasir stated. He denounced the powerful for their lack of modesty and morality and issued a warning against encouraging depravity, obscenity, and shamelessness.
