Aun Chaudhry on Tuesday said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan told him “I will become the prime minister after nikah with Bushra Bibi”.
The revelation came during the proceedings of the case related to the alleged unIslamic marriage of the former prime minister with Bushra Riaz Wattoo — better known as Bushra Bibi — as Aun recorded his testimony as a witness.
Several other intriguing revelations by the witnesses have been made regarding the marriage controversy, which has been long-held since Imran’s third marriage.
Bushra Bibi’s former husband Khawar Maneka challenged the PTI chief’s nikah with his ex-spouse last week.
A day after a similar plea, which claimed that Imran and the former first lady’s nikah was “solemnised against Sharia,” was dismissed, the current appeal was filed in an Islamabad district and sessions court.
In his plea, Maneka called the PTI chief’s nikkah a forgery, claiming that the marriage was consummated within the iddat period, which is the period of time a woman spends alone after her spouse passes away or divorces her.
Mufti Saeed, who is suspected of solemnizing the nikah twice, and Aun, one of the marriage’s witnesses, recorded their statements during today’s session in the local court.
Mufti Saeed said the court, “On January 1, 2018, Imran Khan contacted me and asked me to solemnize his nikah with Bushra Bibi in Lahore.”
He claimed that he followed the PTI chief’s instructions and visited the Defence sector of Lahore. He continued, saying that “Bushra Bibi’s sisters” were among the many people present.
The cleric added that he inquired about whether all Sharia conditions for the nikah were met with a woman who identified herself as Bushra Bibi’s sister. He said that the woman could solemnize the nikah in response to her affirmative response.
The judge then questioned Mufti Saeed about why he hadn’t gone directly to Bushra Bibi with the question. In response, the preacher stated that in this society, a woman who is about to get married is not expected to answer inquiries of this nature.
Following the solemnization of Imran and Bushra Bibi’s nikah, Mufti Saeed informed the court that they had moved to Bani Gala.
The former premier, he added, got in touch with him again in February 2018 and informed him that the nikah that had taken place in January had been solemnized during Bushra Bibi’s iddat.
Judge questioned then who had gotten in touch with him to request that the nikah be solemnized once more. The clergyman answered, though, that he couldn’t recall that.
It should be mentioned that Mufti Saeed, when documenting Khan’s comments in the prior case, disclosed similar information on Khan’s nikah with Bushra Bibi.
Aun informed the court during the recording of his statement that he was one of the nikah witnesses and that Bushra Bibi had informed him that she was divorced and that she met all the prerequisites for marriage when Mufti Saeed questioned her about her marital status prior to the nikah.
Aun stated that while news of Imran and Bushra Bibi’s nikah quickly made its way through the media, he remained silent when allegations of nikah during her iddat arose.
He said that the PTI chairman had instructed them to be silent about the media rumors and that he and Bushra Bibi will be having another nikah in February 2018.
According to Aun, Bushra Bibi informed him that her iddat was finished between February 14 and February 18, at which point she and Imran had a second nikah that was solemnized in February.
“A video recording of the event is also there, and I was there.” The second nikah was witnessed by Zulfi Bukhari and me,” he said.
The PTI chairman’s former assistant went on to say that Imran promised him that if he married Bushra Bibi, he would become prime minister.
“I purposefully had the first nikah during iddat,” Khan was cited by Aun.
He asserted that the first nikah was fake since it violated the law and Shariah and was based on a prophecy.
Following the conclusion of the statements, the court postponed the hearing to December 2 and scheduled the third witness for that date.
