No Peshawar-born politician has led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) as chief minister over the previous forty years. This occurred about forty years ago, during Arbab Jahangir Khan Khalil’s tenure as Chief Minister from 1985 to 1988. For the last ten years, Peshawar has been underrepresented in the federal cabinet.
There aren’t many seasoned Peshawar politicians running for seats in the KP Assembly as the polls on February 8 draw near.
The Mardan division has produced the majority of chief ministers Pakistan is currently the world’s fifth-largest democracy in historical contexts. Notably, the only politician to have served as the province’s chief minister twice in the past 40 years is Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao of Charsadda. This clarifies Peshawar’s political landscape and the city’s participation in important leadership positions.
