In the Avenfield case, the arrest warrants for Nawaz's sons are suspended

The sons of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Mian Nawaz Sharif, Hassan and Hussain Nawaz, have been given a respite by the accountability court, which has suspended the perpetual arrest warrants against them in relation to the Avenfield Apartments case.

Hassan and Hussain Nawaz were previously designated as proclaimed criminals by the accountability court in 2018, and permanent arrest warrants without the possibility of bond were issued against them. The Sharif family’s acquisition and ownership of opulent London properties is at the center of this legal dispute.

The judge of the accountability court, Nasir Javed Rana, revealed the reserved ruling on Thursday, stating that the accused’s perpetual arrest orders had been halted until March 14.

The court had earlier observed that Hassan, Hussain, and Maryam Nawaz were not financially stable in the years 1993, 1995, and 1996 when the Avenfield properties were purportedly bought through offshore firms in London.

Prior to the verdict being reserved, Hassan and Hussain’s attorneys, Qazi Misbah-ul-Hassan and Rana Irfan advocate, had been in court. The defense contended that the high court in the reference had cleared every other accused party in the case. The attorneys said that Hassan and Hussain will both go back to Pakistan on March 12 and willingly come before the court. The accused were prepared to turn themselves in to the court, and two arrest warrants had already been suspended.

Sohail Arif, the prosecutor, was in favor of allowing the accused to make an appearance in court. The accountability court has given Hassan and Hussain Nawaz an opportunity to appear in person by suspending the perpetual arrest orders till March 14.
