Pakistan Snubs Handshake After India’s Easy Asia Cup Win
Dubai – Tensions flared on and off the field as India comfortably defeated Pakistan by seven wickets in their second group match of the Asia Cup 2025 at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.
The match was marked not only by India’s commanding performance but also by a controversy over sportsmanship. Pakistan officials criticized Indian players for refusing to shake hands, calling the gesture “against the spirit of the game.” Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha chose to boycott the post-match ceremony in protest, while head coach Mike Hesson described the team’s reaction as “natural” under the circumstances.
Officials said the match referee had requested that captains refrain from shaking hands at the toss, but tensions clearly ran higher after the match.
On the field, India made light work of Pakistan’s modest total of 128. After Pakistan’s batting line-up faltered against a sharp Indian attack, finishing at 127 for 9 in 20 overs, India’s chase was anchored by captain Suryakumar Yadav. Yadav remained unbeaten on 47 off 37 balls, guiding his side to victory in just 15.5 overs. Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma contributed 31 runs each, helping India reach 131 for 3.
For Pakistan, Saim Ayub was the standout bowler, claiming all three Indian wickets with figures of 3 for 35 in his four overs.
The win reinforced India’s dominance in the tournament, while Pakistan will now need to regroup quickly both on and off the field.
