Inzamam-ul-Haq steps down as chief selector

Inzamam-ul-Haq, the head selector for Pakistan, submitted his resignation to the PCB on Monday. A PCB official later verified the action.

Recently, questions have been raised over Inzamam’s purported ownership of stock in a business run by Talha Rehmani, who represents Inzamam as well as other players like Shaheen Afridi, Babar Azam, and Mohammad Rizwan. Potential conflicts of interest were brought to light, and PCB planned to ask Inzamam for clarity on this subject on Monday.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has now declared that a five-member fact-finding committee has been established to look into claims of conflict of interest regarding the team selection process that have been made public in the media.

The committee will promptly deliver its report and recommendations to the PCB Management.

Inzamam stated, “People speak without research,” while confirming the story. I felt it would be best for me to step down after some inquiries about me were made.”

I am accessible for PCB to explore if they so like. People are speculating [about me] without providing any evidence; if you have any, please present it. The PCB has been requested to follow suit by me. These kinds of charges harm me, and I have no relationship with the player agent company,” he continued.

The former captain talked candidly about the PCB-formed committee that looked into the situation.

“I informed the board that I should step down as long as the investigation is ongoing after learning over the phone that a five-person committee had been established.

“When everything is back to normal and [the air has been clear], I will sit down with the PCB again,” Inzamam said.

Zaka Ashraf, the chairman of the PCB Management Committee, addressed Inzamam’s departure as top selector in the meanwhile, saying that the former captain of Pakistan took the choice on his own initiative without consulting anyone first.

Rather than attend or provide an explanation, he tendered his resignation. I’m willing to meet with him whenever he’d like, and I respect him,” Ashraf remarked.

Noteworthy is the fact that Inzamam presided over the selection committees for both junior and senior men’s cricket.
