KARACHI – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast an active monsoon spell across various parts of the country starting July 13, bringing with it the risk of urban flooding, landslides, and thunderstorms.
In Karachi, sea breeze is expected to normalize by tomorrow (Saturday), with a drizzle likely during the morning and night hours. However, weather conditions will shift again as a fresh monsoon system enters the city on July 15, triggering light rain accompanied by winds and thunderstorms through July 17.
Meanwhile, widespread weather activity is forecast for other parts of Sindh, including Tharparkar, Mirpur Khas, Sanghar, Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, Jacobabad, Khairpur, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Hyderabad districts. These areas are likely to experience moderate rain with thunderstorms between July 15 and 17.

According to the PMD, moist monsoon currents have already begun penetrating the country and are expected to intensify from July 13. Additionally, a fresh westerly wave is set to impact the region from Saturday evening.
Due to the combination of weather systems, the northeastern and southern parts of Balochistan are likely to receive rain with wind/thundershowers and isolated heavy to very heavy falls from July 13 to 16.
The PMD has issued a warning for possible flash floods in hill torrents and local streams across various regions including Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, northeastern Punjab, Balochistan, and parts of Kashmir during July 13 and 14.
Authorities are also warning of potential landslides in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan due to prolonged and heavy rainfall.
Urban flooding remains a serious concern in low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sialkot, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera, and Peshawar.
