Over 650 Killed in Monsoon Rains Across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – The devastating monsoon season has claimed the lives of more than 650 people across Pakistan, with children and women making up a significant portion of the victims, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

The NDMA reported that among the nationwide fatalities, 171 were children and 94 were women. Another 929 people have been injured, including 437 men, 256 children, and 236 women. Officials said the deaths were caused by relentless rains, flash floods, and related incidents, while rescue and relief efforts are being scaled up in the hardest-hit areas.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has suffered the worst losses, recording 390 deaths — 288 men, 59 children, and 43 women. The province also reported 245 injuries, with most of the victims being men.

In Punjab, at least 164 people have lost their lives since June 26, with children forming the largest share of victims. The province has also reported 582 injuries, including nearly equal numbers of men, women, and children.

In the northern region of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), 32 people were killed, while 31 others were injured.

Sindh reported 28 deaths, most of them children, and 40 people injured.

In Balochistan, the floods claimed 20 lives, including 11 children. Only a handful of injuries were reported.

Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) confirmed 15 deaths — five men, five women, and five children — along with 24 injuries.

The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) recorded 8 deaths and 3 injuries.

Authorities warn the toll could rise further as rains continue in several regions. Relief teams are working with provincial administrations to evacuate residents, provide shelter, and deliver emergency aid.
