According to a report sent to the Aiwan-e-Sadr, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has suggested at least 19 people to President Asif Ali Zardari for inclusion in the federal cabinet.
The federal cabinet is scheduled to take an oath at the President House today at 3 p.m., according to sources that Geo News learned from earlier today.
The PML-N lawmakers Ahsan Iqbal, Khawaja Asif, Ishaq Dar, Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Rana Tanveer, Azam Nazeer Tarar, Jam Kamal Khan, Amir Muqam, Awais Leghari, and Attaullah Tarar are among those recommended to assume the leadership of federal ministries under clause 1 of Article 92 of the Constitution. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui of the MQM-P and Abdul Aleem Khan of the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party are also included on the list.
Furthermore, it has been suggested that Senators Ishaq Dar and Musadik Malik be nominated as federal ministers in accordance with Article 91, clause 9, of the Constitution, as they would both step down as senators on March 12 (tomorrow), the day their Senate terms expire.
The aforementioned paragraph gives the prime minister the authority to appoint someone who is not a member of parliament to the federal cabinet for a six-month term.
Under clause 9 of Article 91, three further names have been suggested for induction as federal ministers: Muhammad Aurangzeb, Ahad Khan Cheema, and Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi.
The only other woman who has been suggested for a position in the federal cabinet is Shaza Fatima. The summary states that she will take an oath in accordance with clause 1 of Article 92 of the Constitution as a state minister.
The sources added that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has initially decided to keep his cabinet small, but more ministers will be inducted in the second phase.
The swearing-in of the federal cabinet will come a week after PM Shehbaz took the oath of office as the 24th premier of the country, while President Zardari swore in as the head of state a day ago with all dignitaries in presence during the oath-taking ceremony.
PM Shehbaz calls a meeting of the cabinet
Following the oath-taking ceremony, the premier has called the federal cabinet’s first meeting, which is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. today.
After the ministers take the oath of office, their portfolios will be given to them.
