Foreign Job Opportunities for Pakistanis on the Rise: BEOE

ISLAMABAD – The number of Pakistanis seeking employment abroad is growing steadily, thanks to the country’s progressive workforce policies and increasing demand for both skilled and unskilled labor overseas.

According to an official from the Bureau of Emigration & Overseas Employment (BEOE), over 10 million Pakistanis have secured foreign employment since the Bureau’s establishment in 1971. These workers were officially registered through BEOE channels.

The official told state-run APP that 2015 marked a record year, with 946,571 Pakistanis proceeding abroad for employment — the highest annual figure to date.

As of now, around 116,300 foreign job opportunities are available through BEOE listings. Overseas employment continues to play a crucial role in reducing domestic unemployment and generating vital foreign exchange through workers’ remittances.

“Overseas employment is a cornerstone of Pakistan’s economy,” the official noted, adding that remittances support debt servicing, import bills, poverty alleviation, infrastructure development, and broader economic growth.

BEOE, a regulatory authority, manages and monitors the emigration process. It oversees operations by Overseas Employment Promoters (OEPs) in the private sector and facilitates individuals seeking direct employment abroad via personal networks.

The Bureau also compiles and analyzes emigration data, helping shape labor export policies and national planning efforts. It functions under the Emigration Ordinance of 1979, ensuring the regulation of emigration and safeguarding the welfare of Pakistani workers abroad.

Additional responsibilities include:

Licensing and oversight of OEPs

Mandatory insurance coverage for workers

Pre-departure orientation sessions

Managing agreements with foreign nations for labor export

Administration of the State Life Emigrants Insurance Fund (SLEIF)

BEOE continues to play a pivotal role in promoting foreign employment and enhancing the welfare of Pakistani expatriate workers worldwide.
