ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi asked his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on Friday to address the dire situation in the Middle East. Amid a conflict, Israel begins to pound Gaza with artillery and airstrikes. This war has taken more than 120 Palestinian lives. Also, Pakistan promises Saudi Arabia “unwavering support” for the Palestinian cause.
FM Qureshi expressed outrage of Pakistan at the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and grave human rights violations. He denounced continued attacks of Israel on Palestinians, mainly innocent civilians and children. Furthermore, he said that the actions of Israel violated both human rights and international law.

He referred to a joint statement released by Pakistan and Saudi Arabia during the recent visit of Prime Minister Imran Khan to the kingdom on May 8. This visit includes the two countries’ common perspectives on the Palestinian question.
Independent Palestinian
The foreign minister reaffirmed Pakistan promises Saudi Arabia unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and legitimate rights of people, especially their right to self-determination and the creation of an independent Palestinian state with pre-1967 boundaries and East Jerusalem as its capital, in compliance with the Arab peace initiative and related UN resolutions.
The Saudi foreign minister expressed his concern about the developments in Palestine. He also briefed FM Qureshi on the efforts made to address the situation.
Qureshi welcomes the initiative of Saudi Arabia to call an emergency meeting of the Executive Committee of OIC at the level of foreign ministers on May 16, 2021.
The foreign minister ensured the Saudi foreign minister of Pakistan promises Saudi Arabia unwavering support for the Palestinian cause.

Expressing appreciation for the warm Saudi hospitality extended to the premier during his recent tour. FM Qureshi told his counterpart about PM Imran’s post-visit phone call with King Salman bin Abdul Aziz. During this time, both also addressed Palestine’s dire condition and the need for urgent action to address it.
The two foreign ministers decided to keep tight contacts and cooperation on the emerging situation in Palestine going forward.
