Seven troops were killed in a terrorist attack in Mir Ali, North Waziristan, on Saturday, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). Among them were a lieutenant colonel and a captain. The assault also claimed the lives of at least six terrorists.

According to the ISPR, soldiers stopped the first attempt to break into the army base early in the morning, but six terrorists subsequently drove a car packed with explosives into it and detonated several suicide bombs.

Five courageous troops lost their lives as a consequence of the attacks, which caused a section of the structure to collapse.

The troops who lost their lives were Havildar Sabir from the Khyber district, Naik Khurshid from the Lakki Marwat area, Sepoy Nasir from Peshawar, Sepoy Raja from Kohat, and Sepoy Sajjad from Abbotabad.

All six terrorists were fired down by Pakistani army forces under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Syed Kashif Ali during the subsequent clearance operation. Nonetheless, two Karachi residents, 39-year-old Lt. Col Ali and 23-year-old Captain Muhammad Ahmed Badar of Talagang, accepted martyrdom.

According to the ISPR, the soldiers were taking part in a “sanitization operation” to get rid of any further terrorists that could be in the vicinity.

According to the “security forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe out the menace of terrorism from the country and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve,” the statement said.

In the volatile Dera Ismail Khan area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), at least ten police officers, including members of an elite team, were killed in a brazen attack at the beginning of February.

Officials said that scores of terrorists used sniper rifles to attack the Chaudhwan police station, which is situated in the Daraban tehsil of the district. Reuters stated that the attack began about three in the morning.

According to Akhtar Hayat Gandapur, the head of K-P province police, “more than 30 terrorists launched the attack from three directions. “There was an exchange of fire for over two-and-a-half hours.”

Later, the assailants broke into the building and opened fire with hand grenades and automatic firearms, killing ten police officers and injuring at least six more. The station house officer (SHO) of the Chaudhwan police station, however, was uninjured.

According to Daraban Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Malik Aneesul Hassan, grenade explosions were the primary cause of police casualties, as reported by Reuters.

“TTP establishes new base in K-P”

In mid-2023, the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) opened a new base in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), according to a report released by the UN on February 1. The research revealed intimate connections between al Qaeda and anti-Pakistani organizations, as well as between the TTP and the Afghan Taliban.

In the final week of January, the UN Security Council received the 33rd report, which was created by the UN Monitoring Team and included information on terrorist groups’ existence in Afghanistan and connections to the Kabul government.

“In mid-2023, a new TTP base was established in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, where 66 TTP members received suicide bomber training,” the 23-page study stated.

It was crucial to emphasize that the new facility was created just a few months after Pakistan, as a confidence-boosting gesture, permitted the return of hundreds of TTP terrorists.

It was clear that rather than disarming, the returning TTP militants reorganized and became a bigger menace to Pakistan’s security.

Authorities withdrew from the peace negotiations mediated by the Afghan Taliban due to a surge in TTP assaults.

The UN assessment stated that “[The] TTP was further strengthened and emboldened, increasing attacks with a broader degree of autonomy to manoeuvre.”

2023 will see 566 terrorists slain.

In 2023, security forces nationwide conducted 18,736 intelligence-based operations (IBO) that resulted in the neutralization of at least 566 terrorists.

5,161 terrorists were also apprehended as a result of the IBOs. Afghanistan’s safe havens provided the proof for recent terrorist attacks. 447 terrorists were eliminated in K-P as a result of 1,942 intelligence-based operations.

There have been costs associated with the fight against terrorism. In the face of terror assaults, more than 1,000 people gave their lives for the country, including more than 260 Pakistan Army commanders and troops.
