One day subsequent to Shehbaz Sharif’s inauguration as the nation’s 24th prime minister, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, congratulated the Pakistani leader on securing a second term as head of state.
“Congratulations to @CMShehbaz on being sworn in as the prime minister of Pakistan,” the Indian PM wrote in a message posted on his official X handle.
The event occurred the day after Shehbaz was sworn in by President Arif Alvi, who had appointed him to the position after Shehbaz’s 16-month tenure as prime minister from April 2022 to August 2023.
The president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has been appointed as the country’s premier for the second time after winning 201 votes in a boisterous session of the lower house of parliament against Omar Ayub Khan, the candidate backed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), who received 92 votes.
Shehbaz was congratulated on his appointment as the nation’s chief executive by a number of international leaders and diplomats earlier today, including US Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome, Iran’s Ebrahim Raisi, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Malaysia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and others.
Congratulations to @CMShehbaz on being sworn in as the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
