Salman Ali Agha Confident Ahead of Pakistan’s T20I Series Opener Against Afghanistan
Pakistan T20I captain Salman Ali Agha expressed confidence in his team’s preparations ahead of the series opener against Afghanistan, saying the Men in Green are ready to take on the challenge.
Speaking to the media, Agha reflected on Pakistan’s recent performances, noting a mix of highs and lows. “Our team has performed well in the last couple of series. When we go out to play, we think of winning the game,” he said. Pakistan recently suffered a defeat against Bangladesh but bounced back with a 2-1 series win over the West Indies.
The upcoming Asia Cup marks Agha’s first major assignment as captain, and the 31-year-old said he is eager to embrace the responsibility.
While he didn’t reveal details about the playing XI for today’s game, recent team combinations under coach Mike Hesson provide clues about Pakistan’s likely lineup.
For the opening slot, Pakistan has experimented with Sahibzada Farhan, Fakhar Zaman, and Saim Ayub. With Fakhar back to full fitness, he is expected to open alongside Ayub. Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Haris is likely to bat at number three, followed by Hasan Nawaz and captain Salman Ali Agha in the middle order.
All-rounders Mohammad Nawaz and Faheem Ashraf offer flexibility in the lineup, with either Husain Talat or Khushdil Shah potentially featuring depending on match conditions. The bowling attack will include pace spearheads Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf, supported by one of the spinners – Abrar Ahmed or Sufyan Muqeem.
Probable Pakistan XI: Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub, Mohammad Haris (wk), Hasan Nawaz, Salman Ali Agha (C), Hussain Talat/Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, Abrar Ahmed.
