Talking about Jal, Goher Mumtaz says Farhan Saeed aspired to be Atif Aslam

The internet has gone crazy over a recent interview that was posted on the Freebird Music Entertainment YouTube channel. Goher Mumtaz, a gifted musician and former member of the band Jal, discussed the band’s turbulent history and highlighted some of the difficulties they encountered, most notably Farhan Saeed’s departure.

Goher started out by considering Jal’s development and pointing out that the band went through several breakups. But when the topic turned to Farhan, who joined the band after Atif Aslam left, the conversation took an intriguing turn. Goher says that considering Goher’s own role as a vocalist, Farhan’s introduction into Jal was not first considered necessary. Goher acknowledged Farhan’s promise but admitted that it took a lot of work to get the audience to connect with Farhan.

Goher said, “When Farhan came in, he was very…not into it.” “He needed to spend two to four years honing his craft because people would mistakenly associate him with Atif, claiming that their sounds were too dissimilar. There was chemistry involved in the travel, therefore a lot of work went into it. To be honest, I didn’t think there was a need for it. I’m telling the truth. There was absolutely no necessity. But then I thought, “Okay, let’s work on this together,” since songs and shows were still going on. But now that you mention it, I completely concur that Farhan wasn’t necessary for the band.”

Goher revealed that he was mixing a song with composer Zulfiqar “Xulfi” Jabbar Khan in response to a question of how he and Farhan came to be together. Goher attempted to devise an additional course of action following Aadat. He mentioned that Farhan attended the university of Xulfi. Goher revealed that nobody could tell the band members apart because of the abundance of shows they had scheduled. So it was through Xulfi that he was acquainted to Farhan. Goher recalled, “He was very confused in three, four concerts.” “He did not understand. He was merely reciting the Aadat.” Goher claims that as a result of this, the singer ended up performing Sajni.

Goher acknowledged that Farhan had struggled and lacked confidence at first, but he also said that he had taken aggressive measures to increase Farhan’s assurance. Goher was instrumental in building Farhan’s confidence and easing his transition into the band by writing new songs for him and pushing him to perform the older album tracks. Goher said, “People weren’t seeing him as a vocalist,” emphasizing that Sajni was the breakthrough song written to establish Farhan as a vocalist.

The conversation changed course when Goher revealed the reasons behind Farhan’s exit from Jal. Goher claims that Farhan wanted to emulate Atif by pursuing a solo career that would equal Atif’s achievements. Goher recalled telling Farhan that it was not possible to follow Atif’s path, stressing the individuality of every artist’s path. He talked about the painful experience of losing a singer in whom he had put a lot of time and energy, making Farhan a Jal celebrity.

Goher claimed, “Farhan wanted to be Atif Aslam by going to Bollywood and all that stuff.” He’s Atif Aslam, you know, I used to tell him. The timing of those songs was perfect for him. Similar attempts are made by many singers. However, Jal is the ideal platform for you, Farhan. It’s a winning combo. He was fortunate. However, he was eager to leave and declared, “No, I want to go.” When you put so much effort into someone, it hurts so badly. To accomplish so much for a voice that is ordinary, I would argue that I worked far harder for Atif than he did. After that, I would advise him against trying to get into Bollywood because, in my opinion, time has shown how difficult the industry is. They have numerous other vocalists. Because he departed at the appropriate moment and had a distinctive voice, no one can be Atif Aslam.But he paid no attention. He added, “You can’t stop somebody from doing what they want to do.”
