Pakistan Reaffirms Commitment to UN Mandate During Call with Secretary-General Guterres

ISLAMABAD – Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the United Nations during a phone call with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Sunday night.

Dar assured Guterres of Pakistan’s full cooperation in enabling UN personnel to carry out their global responsibilities effectively. As Pakistan currently holds the presidency of the UN Security Council (UNSC) for July, the Deputy PM highlighted the country’s planned Signature Events aimed at advancing key international objectives during its term.

Both leaders expressed eagerness to engage further in New York next week as part of events related to Pakistan’s UNSC presidency.

In related remarks made last week during a community address in Kuala Lumpur, Ishaq Dar criticized India’s leadership, stating they are “unable to digest their recent defeat” in escalating tensions with Pakistan. He pointed to India’s reaction following the Pahalgam incident and underscored Pakistan’s measured response — including the closure of its airspace and suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty.

Dar emphasized that Pakistan had successfully countered India’s global misinformation campaign and rejected claims of diplomatic isolation. He noted that the world recognizes Pakistan as a major victim of terrorism and praised the country’s shift towards economic diplomacy over traditional rhetoric.
