Pakistan Raises Key Issues at New York Conference

NEW YORK: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister held a press conference in New York where he spoke on several important topics, including terrorism, Kashmir, and Palestine.

He said that talks with the U.S. are not just about terrorism. He added that Pakistan has suffered the most because of terrorism, and the U.S. Secretary of State agreed with Pakistan’s sacrifices in this fight.

The Deputy Prime Minister also talked about the Jammu and Kashmir issue during his meeting with U.S. officials. He said peace in the region is not possible without solving this long-standing dispute. He reminded that former U.S. President Donald Trump had also mentioned Kashmir several times.

Talking about the Indus Water Treaty, he said Pakistan’s position is strong and clear. He warned that no country can change or cancel the treaty. Blocking Pakistan’s water would not be accepted under any condition.

Answering a question, he said Pakistan has no plan to recognize Israel. He called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and asked for urgent aid to help the people of Palestine.

He also repeated Pakistan’s full support for an independent Palestinian state, with Al-Quds Al Sharif (Jerusalem) as its capital.

Calling his U.S. trip a success, he said Pakistan also raised the need for changes in the United Nations Security Council. He said the Muslim world, through the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), should get proper representation.
