Pakistan Set to Face Bangladesh in Colombo After Dominant Qualifier Run
COLOMBO – Pakistan is all set to take on Bangladesh in the upcoming tournament after an impressive performance in the World Cup qualifiers earlier this year in Lahore, where they maintained a perfect 100% win record.
Before the tournament, Pakistan played a three-match ODI series against South Africa in Lahore. South Africa clinched the series 2-1, but Pakistan gained valuable match practice ahead of the main event.
All group-stage matches for Pakistan will be held at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo. Conditions are expected to be challenging, with temperatures soaring to 32°C accompanied by high humidity, according to commentator Alan Wilkins.
Russel Arnold added that the pitch allows players to “hit through the line” and will remain firm, offering little turn later in the game due to the hardness of the track and grass coverage. He noted that Pakistan had prepared well for these conditions.
He also suggested that teams should aim for a par score rather than an excessively high target. “Don’t target 300; a par score would be around 260-265, even though there may be a bit of dew later on,” Arnold said.
Teams for the Match:
Bangladesh: Farqana Hoque, Rubya Haider, Sharmin Akhter, Nigar Sultana (captain, wk), Sobhana Mostary, Shorna Akter, Fahima Khatun, Nahida Akter, Rabeya Khan, Marufa Akter, Nishita Akter
Pakistan: Muneeba Ali, Omaima Sohail, Sidra Amin, Aliya Riaz, Natalia Pervaiz, Fatima Sana, Sidra Nawaz, Rameen Shamim, Nashra Sandhu, Diana Baig, Sadia Iqbal
