There are problems with internet data theft and hacking. Following are the major governmental websites that are vulnerable to hacking because these websites don’t have an SSL certificate.
www.pakistan.gov.pk –Pakistan’s Official Website listed on Wikipedia does not work and it does not even have an SSL certificate.
According to local hackers, 85 percent of the Pakistani website are exposed to hacking; including banks, telecom companies, ISPs, blogs, and forums with government websites at the top of the list. Ethical hackers are calling on the need for security enhancement for Pakistani websites; to make sure that we live in a secure cyber world. Without an SSL certificate, it is impossible to secure these websites.

SSL (secure sockets layer) Certificates are small data files that digitally bind a cryptographic key to an organization’s details. When installed on a web server, it activates the padlock and the HTTP protocol. Without an SSL certificate, a website’s traffic can’t be encrypted with TLS.
Companies and organizations need to add SSL certificates to their websites to secure online transactions and keep customer information private and secure. The Pakistani government is engaged in a protracted conflict against armed militant groups within and outside its borders; it is a key player in the global ‘war on terror. Communications surveillance of phone and internet protocol (IP) traffic, domestically and internationally, and other forms such as biometric or device registration, is justified by the government as necessary to counter these internal and external threats. So for security, the main governmental websites of Pakistan over the internet must be protected from Indian and American Hackers.
Sensitive Pakistan government websites got hacked
Several Pakistan government websites have reportedly been hacked by a group calling itself ‘Team I Crew’. The hackers defaced the websites by leaving messages on the screen: ‘We will never forget #14/02/2019’ and ‘Our heartfelt condolences to the families of CRPF jawans who sacrificed their lives in #PulwamaTerrorAttack’. Sources within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which was one of the websites attacked, are believed to be of Indian origin.
The sites hacked by Indian hackers included the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Climate Change, Ministry of Inter-provincial coordination, Ministry of Water and Power, Ministry of Information Technology, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and others. Indian hackers’ group, called ‘Indian Cyber Army’ is claiming to have gained root access to one of the main servers hosting major Pakistani Government websites. This server was reportedly hosting at least 40 government websites of sensitive nature, including the Pakistan Navy, NAB, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Assembly, Pakistan’s Military Account, Ministry of Science and Technology, AGP, FAB and others. This web server reportedly hosted with NTC, has a total of 162 government websites hosted on it, out of which at least 40 websites were affected by this hacking attempt.

This is not the first time that Pakistani websites got hacked. This is the time now that the Government of Pakistan should add more professionals to shield its cyber security to protect country’s sensitive data available over the internet.
