Pakistanis Have Received More Than 65 Lac Passports This Year

The Director General of Passports in Pakistan, Mustafa Jamal Qazi, stated that the 6.5 million passports issued in 2023 was a noteworthy accomplishment. In a significant step toward modernization, Qazi declared that e-passports will be required in Pakistan starting in 2027, demonstrating that all necessary preparations had been made for this change.

Qazi provided further details on the ongoing conversion of current machine-readable passports into electronic passports during a visit to the Karachi Passport Office. It is anticipated that this extensive renovation will be completed in the next six to seven months, demonstrating the government’s dedication to adopting cutting-edge technologies.

In response to public concerns about passports given to Afghan nationals, Qazi told them that 12,000 of these passports are the subject of an active investigation by a specialized task force, highlighting the significance of guaranteeing the authenticity and integrity of travel papers.

In addition, Qazi confirmed that supply chain problems had been resolved, which allayed concerns regarding delays in passport issuance. With the acquisition of a substantial quantity of lamination paper for printing, passport issue operations can now resume without incident. The administration’s dedication to provide its citizens with dependable and effective passport services is reflected in this proactive approach.
