Though it’s still unclear if he will run for office, President Dr. Arif Alvi declared on Thursday that he will swear in Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif should he be chosen as the nation’s next prime minister.
The article requires it. I’ll carry out my post’s responsibilities. In an interview with Voice of America’s (VOA) Urdu service, the US news organization, one should do,” he stated.
He continued: “One must do if the public elects someone.”
In answer to a query about whether he would give the PML-N supremo the oath of office, the president made the statement.
When asked whether he thinks the general elections would happen on the scheduled date next year, Dr. Alvi responded in the interview that he is optimistic.
“The administration, courts, and political leaders concur that elections should be held on schedule. Without a doubt, the elections are scheduled on February 8,” he declared.
In response to a query regarding potential ambiguity around polls, he informed the US broadcaster that no action had been taken when it came to election day.
He began by praising the Supreme Court for choosing an election date that was both sensible and unanimous. He also discussed how his work has helped to guarantee that elections are held on time across the nation.
Regarding the notion of fair competition, the president stated that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the government bear the responsibility of ensuring it.
“I wrote a letter to the government requesting that the issues of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) be addressed. He remarked, “The government has promised to provide an even playing field, and the people trust the government to do so.”
Dr. Alvi emphasized that he speaks for all Pakistanis, regardless of political affiliation. According to Dr. Alvi, the president is not permitted under the Constitution to take effective measures to guarantee fair elections. But he asserted that it is his responsibility as president to continue “prompting” the executive branch to carry out its duties in an open manner.
“Although the president lacks executive authority, his ideas are well-reasoned. Constitutionally, this is a symbolic position,” he stated, emphasizing that although rules exist, laws cannot be broken.
Dr. Alvi restated the notion that cooperation between the establishment, lawmakers, and management may address issues.
As the fourth president to finish his tenure in office, the president expressed his honor in holding the office.
When asked if he doubted PTI leader Imran Khan will run in the elections, Dr. Alvi responded in the negative.
The president remarked, “I won’t speculate into that; it depends on the courts.”
Why his attempts to make contact with Khan’s military organization had failed was the question posed to him. “There were many reasons for the failure of reconciliation between the army and PTI chairman.”
In response to a question on whether he believes a certain party is front-runner ahead of selection in Pakistan, the president stated, “I don’t want to turn myself controversial by arguing on such matters.”
He added that he wouldn’t comment on that to avoid turning the president’s position controversial
